Traffic Safety Analyses for E-Vehicles by the Austrian Road Safety Board (KfV)

Everybody is talking about E-mobility nowadays. No matter whether mild hybrid, hybrid or fully electrified cars, E-mopeds or E-bikes, all these forms of E-mobility will increasingly rule the streets.
The current infrastructure for motorised road users of any category including directives and regulations is geared to the requirements of vehicles with internal combustion engines. And even the infrastructure for non-motorised road users is aligned to interaction with ICE vehicles. As electric vehicles will be used more and more widely, problems cannot be ruled out and, consequently, some details well as adaptations to infrastructure and vehicles may possibly be required.

Carinthia – Companion into the Electro-mobile Future!

The “Lebensland Carinthia“, a role model in the field of electro-mobility anyway, was chosen to be the exclusive test region for the brand-new compact car series Mercedes e-Cell last year. With a total of 15 e-Cell vehicles, Klagenfurt is in the very best company with cities such as New York, Berlin and Amsterdam. After all, Mercedes has produced no more than 500 cars for the time being. With this test, Carinthia has risen up into the premiere league of electro-mobility. Now this grand success including all results will be incorporated into and accompany the CEMOBIL project, thus leveraging numerous synergies.

Training measures

Since October 2011, training courses on how to deal with electro-mobility have been offered, inter alia, for all car dealers and repair shops on a semi-annual basis in cooperation with the Austrian Automobile Club (ÖAMTC).
This know-how is not only important for roadside assistance provided by the ÖAMTC, but also for vehicle service and repair. For emergency teams such as fire fighters, etc., too, it is crucial to be prepared on how to handle this new form of mobility in dangerous situations.
